Location

The Department is housed in the new James L. Knight Physics Building in the Coral Gables campus. This campus occupies 260 beautifully landscaped acres in a predominantly residential area. Coral Gables is an affluent suburb of metropolitan Miami, which is the largest urban area in Florida. Downtown Miami is readily accessible by Metrorail train, which has a stop next to the campus.

Miami is a center of Latin culture and is the commercial gateway to Latin America. It offers all the amenities of a large and prosperous city, as well as an excellent oceanside climate of warm winters and moderate summers. There are many excellent restaurants and a full schedule of theater, museum exhibits, and concerts. Professional sports events and unrivaled water recreation are also among Miami's attractions.
